Should I contact this former friend now, later or never?

He hasn't been in my life for months (he moved) & I am hesitant to contact him because I like him but I found him online. I mostly want to get over him and another part of me just wants him in my life because he was a gr8 friend and I love him (Platonic). Ideally I would like to wait until I am over him but my feelings for him have grown stronger and I'm afraid it will get worse.
